Makunudhoo is one of the inhabited islands of Haa Dhaalu Atoll. Geographically part of Māmakunudhoo Atoll (Malcolm Atoll) in the north of the Maldives. It is the westernmost inhabited island in the Maldives. The island is 0.200  km long and 0.500  km wide and is 262.33 km (163.00 mi) north of the country's capital, Malé City. Makunudhoo  is home to a population of about 1774 people. Although the local language is Dhivehi, many can also speak in English. The island has  03  cafes, 18 shops,  a childrens park and 1 Domestic sea transfer operators. In addition it also has a Health Centre and  a police station. Historically, several ships have been wrecked on the treacherous reefs surrounding the island. The most famous wreck was that of the English spice ship Hayston in July 1891.
