Goidhoo is one of the inhabited islands of Baa Atoll. It is 2.130 km long and 1.580 km wide and is 95.69 km (59 mi; 52 nmi) northwest of the country's capital, Malé City. The island features an uncommon mould of characteristics, such as bioluminescent planktons and freshwater lakes called "Koaru" (a rarity in the Maldives) with huge freshwater crabs larger than a foot. Goidhoo Koaru is protected and is one of the largest mangrove ecosystems within the nation. This site is also a popular roosting site for migratory birds.Goidhoo is home to a population of about 550 people. Although the local language is Dhivehi, many can also speak in English. The island has 2 hotels, 6 restaurants, 7 local shops, and 3 domestic transfer operators. It also has a health centre. However, the island does not have an ATM yet. The island, just like the reefs and uninhabited islands that lie beside it, abounds with unique marine life. Visitors will enjoy the chance to look at rays, dolphins, whale sharks and sea turtles at arm’s length.
